Support the NAJYRC

Fielding teams to the NAJYRC is an expensive endeavor! As a region we incur the travel/lodging expenses for our chef d’equipes along with other team expenses such as tack stalls and golf cart rentals. Riders who have declared their intent to qualify for our team are strongly encouraged to help with the fund raising efforts. For many of our riders this is in addition to the personal fundraising efforts they have to cover their own expenses such as entry fees, stabling and transportation.

Thanks to generous support of our Region 1 community each year, we have not only been able to cover the regional expenses of fielding teams to this prestigious competition but have also helped to defray some of the expenses of our riders.

We hope you will consider supporting our team this year. Any donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated. All contributors will be recognized on the Region 1 website. Donations via credit card are now available through a secure USDF credit card processing link – just click on the “Support Our Team” button and choose “JR/YR$” from the drop down menu. Checks should be made out to USDF Region 1 Jr/YR Fund and mailed to Debbie DelGiorno, PO Box 307, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934.

Lastly, I would like to remind you that USDF is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) and any contribution you make to our team is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law and maybe eligible for employer corporate match programs.

Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Debbie DelGiorno

The Dressage Foundation
Allison Spivey Awarded $500 Trip Harting Fund Grant from the Dressage Foundation

May 7, 2013 – The Dressage Foundation is pleased to announce that Allison Spivey of Aroda, VA, is the 2013 recipient of the $500 Trip Harting Grant. Allison plans to use the funds to continue her education in the United States Dressage Federation 'L' Education Program.
Allison Spivey
Allison graduated from the Rapidan River Pony Club (VA) as only the 11th person in the nation to receive a Dressage Specialty A rating. She is currently an assistant trainer for Lauren Sprieser, is a Bronze and Silver Medalist, and volunteers as an instructor for two area Pony Clubs. Allison has completed the A, B, and C sections of the ‘L’ Education Program and will complete the D1, D2, and exam sections in 2014. About attending the 'L' Education Program, Allison said, “This will continue the education that the United States Pony Club provided me as a young person, and will be a jumping-off point to continue my education and development as a rider, trainer, and hopefully a judge."

Trip's friends, students, and admirers established this Fund at The Dressage Foundation in his memory.  Trip, a beloved judge, coach and clinician, passed away in August 2008.  The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance for a Pony Club rider to attend the USDF 'L' Education Program or Instructor Certification Program.  Applicants must be current or graduate Pony Club members with a B or A rating.

The Trip Harting Fund will continue to grow over time as new donations flow into The Dressage Foundation.  The Foundation will continue to award grants based on recommendations of the Selection Committee for as long as the Fund balance allows.  Applications are due to the Foundation in March of each year.

Safety Helmet The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) wishes to remind all dressage competitors of the rule change to DR120. This change goes into effect on April 1, 2013 and necessitates the usage of protective headgear by anyone mounted on the grounds at all USEF dressage competitions. DR120 has been amended to require protective headgear as follows: From the time horses are officially admitted to the competition grounds by competition management, anyone mounted on a horse at any time on the competition grounds including non-competing riders, riders on non-competing horses, and those competing in all classes and tests, including Para-Equestrian tests must wear protective headgear as defined by this rule and otherwise in compliance with GR801. Any rider violating this rule at any time must immediately be prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place. Protective headgear is defined as a riding helmet which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI(Safety Equipment Institute) standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. The harness must be secured and properly fitted.

If there are questions regarding this rule or the use of protective headgear at USEF dressage competitions please contact Hallye Griffin by email at hgriffin@usef.org or by phone (859) 225-6918.
